White stuff in attic.
I have some white powder in my attic but nowhere near 4 deep and only in a few places.
Bill that could indeed be and looks like a white fungus or mold growth on roof sheathing.
The vast majority of attic mold is caused by humidity which is why white mold growth is common here.
There s also some fine white powder that blew in during the sandblasting.
White mold will look white cottony flakey and stringy and grows on organic materials.
After all some mold shows up as a white powdery material but more often in a crawl space than an attic.
Attics contain plenty of food sources for mold including wood and insulation.
Loose fill insulation comes in a variety of materials.
It only shows up near areas of stucco damage on the exterior walls so i think it s from the old stucco perhaps a bad mixture here and there.
The types of insulation that were most commonly made with asbestos are loose fill also called blown in insulation.
The client will certainly expect an explanation for this white material on the roof rafters in the attic.
The insulation was contaminated and we inspected the attic side of the ceiling drywall below for signs of leak stains or mold.
White mold tends to grow in high humidity environments rather than areas suffering from total saturation.
As such roof leaks from rainfall or melting snow condensation resulting from temperature fluctuations and or leaky pipes can give mold the moisture it.
This is why it s less common to see mold growth on base trim after a flooding event.
On 2019 10 09 mod what is this white moldy stuff in my attic.
If your attic or wall insulation is in batt or blanket form whether it s fiberglass cellulose or another material you generally don t have to be concerned about asbestos.
